Lear & Lear was founded in 2001 by brothers Jon and Phillip Lear. Together they envisioned a new kind of law firm. One dedicated to serving clients with high quality, cost effective legal services tailored to each client’s needs. When they opened their doors to the historic Downey Mansion in 2002, Lear’s three attorneys served clients throughout the Rocky Mountain West. As a small boutique firm, they were nimble enough to adjust to market forces and client needs while maintaining deep expertise in the field of oil and gas.
From the beginning, Lear has been laser focused on clients: analyzing their needs, advising them on every part of their business, and completing projects more cost effectively than larger firms. Lear does this by continually implementing new technologies to deliver the highest quality services in the most efficient manner. For instance, Lear pioneered a method of preparing drilling and division order title opinions that is now the industry standard.
Today, Lear employs attorneys who are licensed in 18 states and service clients throughout the country. Among its attorneys are the same three lawyers who helped open Lear’s doors in 2002, including Matt Snow, who is now the firm’s principal partner. Lear’s campus has also expanded to include a second building that was lovingly restored by Jon, Phillip, and Matt and is now recognized on the National Historic Registry, along with the Downey Mansion.
Lear’s expertise has grown along with the firm. In addition to remaining a premier provider of drilling and division order oil and gas opinions, Lear also offers services related to an array natural resources and renewable energy on state, federal, and tribal lands. While Lear has grown, it’s central focus on clients remains the same.
